The Northwest Chamber Alliance recognizes that the devastating Marshall Fire had a terrible impact on the residents of our community, with many homes completely destroyed. At the same time, our business have also suffered great lost. Some took a direct damaging hit from the fires, while others will suffer from customer disruptions and workforce distractions, at the same time they are confronting a surging pandemic.

We offer the information and tools below as a resource for businesses across Boulder and Broomfield Counties as they struggle to overcome the challenges that the Marshall Fire presented. We hope it serves as an effective resource in navigating the recovery from fire damage and as support for their impacted workforce. We aim to keep the material fresh as we receive more information on assistance services and resources.

    • Residents and business owners who sustained losses in the designated counties can begin applying for assistance starting 1/2/22 by registering online at https://www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice.
    • U.S. Small Business Administration Assistance (SBA): Federal assistance is available from the SBA to businesses of all sizes and private nonprofit organizations may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory and other business assets. SBA can also lend additional funds to businesses and homeowners to help with the cost of improvements to protect, prevent or minimize the same type of disaster damage from occurring in the future.
      • To be considered for SBA assistance and all forms of federal disaster assistance, survivors must first contact the Federal Emergency Management Agency at disasterassistance.gov. Additional information and details is available by calling the SBA Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955.
      • Interest rates can be as low as 2.83 percent for businesses, 1.875 percent for private nonprofit organizations and 1.438 percent for homeowners and renters with terms up to 30 years. Loan amounts and terms are set by SBA and are based on each applicant’s financial condition.
    • Taxes and Unemployment Insurance: Colorado Department of Revenue announced the agency will offer relief on state-collected taxes to Colorado taxpayers who have been affected by the Marshall Fire.  The tax relief measures will mirror IRS measures in the same declared disaster area.
    • Boulder County Marshall Fire Assistance: Applications are being accepted at www.boco.org/MarshallFireApplyForAssistance for financial assistance for those displaced or otherwise impacted by the Marshall Fire.

Please note this assistance is for housing relief only; other expenses including second mortgages(home equity lines or loans), hotel/motel expenses, clothing, appliances, equipment, vehicle purchase, rental or repair and or mileage are ineligible for reimbursement under this program.     • If you have been displaced by the fires, contact your insurance agent or company immediately to let them know where you are staying. They can help find lodging options as many people in the area will be temporarily displaced.

    • Save all receipts for living expenses if you’ve been evacuated or displaced by the fire, as homeowners or renters in these situations typically have insurance coverage for additional living expenses (ALE) which provides them with an amount of out-of-pocket money while evacuated. Check with your insurance company or agent about your coverage. If you are unable to live in your house or apartment because of the fire, most policies will also reimburse you the difference between your additional living expenses and your normal living expenses. Check with your insurance company or agent about your coverage.
    • Start the claim process as soon as you can. For your home, any out buildings and vehicles, you’ll want to contact your insurance company or agent right away to begin the claim process. However, these fires were devastating and many people have been significantly impacted, so the insurance process will take time.
    • If possible, and only if it is safe to do so, try to document any damage by taking photos.
    • If your home survived the fires, it may still have experienced damage from smoke or water, or to the electrical systems or other damage due to the extreme heat or the snow and cold. As with direct fire damage, contact your insurance company or agent as soon as possible to start the claims process.

Message from Boulder County Public Health: Following the masking order is more important now than ever before.  Given how highly transmissible Omicron is compared to prior variants of COVID-19, it is especially important to wear a well-fitted surgical mask, KN95, or the equivalent. Although a multi-layer cloth mask meets the order’s requirements, snug-fitting KN95 and surgical masks provide better protection. Gaiters, balaclavas, scarves, face shields and any single-layer cover do not meet the order’s requirements.

All Coloradans over the age of 5 are eligible to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, and all Coloradans over the age of 18 are eligible to receive the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines.

Booster Shots - Colorado’s prevalence of COVID-19 makes the state a high-risk place to live and work. Anyone who is 18+ who would like a booster and is six months past their initial series of the Pfizer / Moderna vaccines or two months past a J&J vaccine should make a plan to get one or discuss with their doctor. Vaccines are safe, effective and free, and preliminary data indicates that a third dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine offers significant protection against omicron.

  • Increase Air Flow and Ventilation – Move gatherings outdoors when possible. While indoors, use HEPA filters or increase ventilation and airflow by opening windows or increasing air circulation.
  • Wash your hands – Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand rub that contains 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
  • Stay home if you’re sick – If you feel sick (fever, cough, difficulty breathing, fatigue, body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell or sore throat), stay home, get tested and isolate or quarantine if necessary.  Additionally, ask employees to report any symptoms and have them stay home if sick.
